Killing us softlyA while back I saw this post spreading around on a couple of Facebook anti-fluoride groups, and noticed people blatantly spreading this as fact when it’s really a bunch of misinformation.

“YOU ARE BEING POISONED. I am pleased and sad to announce that my book, “Killing Us Softly: Causes and Consequences of the Global Depopulation Policy” has been accepted by the Social Sciences Research Network (SSRN). This is academic confirmation of the validity of my research and should dispel any lingering doubts that we are not being poisoned into extinction by our freely elected governments. STOP EVERYTHING YOU ARE DOING AND TAKE NOTE.”

Link to the paper. I found it interesting that the Social Science Research Network would host this pseudoscience book when you can see on their own website quotes:

“Each of SSRN’s networks encourages the early distribution of research results by distributing submitted abstracts and by soliciting abstracts of top quality research papers around the world”.

They were even ranked the top open-access repository in the world by Ranking Web of Repositories in January 2013.

It looks like the authors can submit their research directly. Being in the “Accepted Paper Series” means that the research has already been published in a journal or a book; this loophole is how this book was let onto the site. Clearly they didn’t read the book before accepting it, but being an open-access repository one can expect that. I do wonder if the University of Victoria (Canada) knows exactly what this book contains since their name is associated with it.

The book starts off with a lot of factual material and comments that you can’t really argue with (overpopulation & what it means for our long-term future) and then segues into how it would have been worse had these un-named global elite not somehow put a dampener on it.

It goes into conspiracy theories on fluoride, plastic, chemtrails, AIDS, vaccines, GMOs all being used by various governments to reduce the population. Of course fluoride being used by the Nazis and Soviets for “sterilizing both men and women” and “in inducing a bovine state of obedience and submissiveness”.

“It is estimated that 5 IQ points are lost by each generation of children subjected to fluoride in the womb and during the first years of life”
“That is why, for example, the spraying of aerosolized aluminium is far more prevalent on the Western seaboard of Canada and the US, where tap water fluoridation is scarce”.

These are not factual claims and do not have scientific reasoning behind them. We wonder how his claims of an elite depopulating the world since 1945 fit with the data here.

The wiki page (which has since been removed) about the author Kevin Galalae makes for an interesting read, it makes him sound like a character from a movie.

When contacting SSRN we asked what they thought of the book and their reply said

“The SSRN executive team deemed this paper as non-scholarly, and it has been removed from SSRN’s public eLibrary”.

They didn’t remove the book from the website but they did add a warning to say:

“SSRN NOTE: SSRN has designated this as a Non-Scholarly paper and has assigned it to the section of the website that hosts Opinion papers”.
