WRONGHere is a meme posted in anti-fluoridation groups following the publication by Grandjean and Landrigan (2014), Neurobehavioural effects of developmental toxicity, in the Lancet. There are so many things wrong with this meme.

Firstly, this is a review, with no original research showing “fluoride” at the concentrations in drinking water acts as a neurotoxin. The only mentions of fluoride in the article are in the abstract, and in a table, which does not appear to be backed up with any citation at optimal levels. Where is the evidence? The picture of a child drinking water associated with this statement is, therefore, nothing more than an attempt at emotional blackmail.

Secondly, the Lancet is a “journal”. They do not “officially classify” anything. The “authors” of the article have “stated” that it is a neurotoxin, without citation or mention of concentrations, and the paper itself does not give any evidence for this being the case for fluoridated community drinking water.

The New England Journal of Medicine is actually the oldest continuously published medical periodical. 12 years older than the Lancet.

Best known Journal? Citation needed.
